NWSL Power Rankings: Temwa Chawinga scores her eighth goal of the season to keep Kansas City's winning streak alive, problems arise for Utah and Chicago

Kansas City continued to show dominance over just about everyone in the league, earning their fifth straight win of the season and their 10th overall. Temwa Chawinga scored her eighth goal and is now just one goal behind Gotham FC's Esther Gonzalez in the Golden Boot race.

The San Diego Wave got back to winning ways as did Gotham FC this past weekend, with both teams putting on three-goal performances. On the other side of the standings, Utah dropped its ninth game of the season and Chicago came close to three points, but ended up walking away with just one in a draw against Seattle Reign.

So, who's leading the pack, and who's falling short of expectations? INDIVISA presents the latest 2025 NWSL Power Rankings.

    14Utah Royals

    Prior Ranking: 14

    Result: Lost 3-0 to Gotham FC

    Ramifications: The Utah Royals struggled to compete against Gotham FC, despite the home field advantage. The Royals are now at the bottom of the league standings with a 1-9-2 record. Even more concerning is that they've conceded 25 goals and scored just 10.

    13Chicago Stars

    Prior Ranking: 13

    Result: Drew Seattle Reign 2-2

    Ramifications: The Chicago Stars had everyone on the edge of their seats thanks to Ludmila's brace in just the first 13 minutes to put the Stars ahead of the Reign 2-0. However, the Stars then went on to concede two goals to end the match with a one-point result. The Stars are just above the Utah Royals in the league standings with a 1-8-3 record.

    12Houston Dash

    Prior Ranking: 12

    Result: Lost to San Diego Wave 3-2

    Ramifications: Without Yazmeen Ryan andBarbara Olivieri the Houston Dash are limited in their attacking options. Against the Wave, the Dash had some highlight-worthy plays thanks to Ryan and Olivieri, but still couldn't complete a full game without conceding. The Dash fell 3-2 against the Wave, and are currently in 12th place overall in the league standings.

    11Bay FC

    Prior Ranking: 11

    Result: Lost to Orlando Pride 1-0

    Ramifications: Bay FC are 4-5-3 overall, and despite outplaying Orlando over the weekend, still couldn't walk away with a win. Bay FC outshot Orlando 20 to seven. Bay FC are currently just one spot below the playoff line.

    10Racing Louisville

    Prior Ranking: 9

    Result: Lost to Kansas City Current 4-2

    Ramifications: Racing Louisville did their best against anabsolutely buzzing Kansas City side. Despite some good defensive moments and organized play, Racing Louisville just couldn't find an answer to the Current's front line. Racing Louisville are now 5-5-2 and above the playoff line in seventh place.

    9Angel City

    Prior Ranking: 6

    Result: Lost to North Carolina Courage 2-1

    Ramifications: Angel City has played some rapid soccer all season, however the results are just not falling for the Southern California team. Over the weekend, despite a beautiful finish once again from rookie Riley Tiernan, Angel City fell to the Courage.

    Angel City are one of four teams in the league with a 4-5-3 record, and sit 10th in the standings.

    8Seattle Reign

    Prior Ranking: 7

    Result: Drew Chicago Stars 2-2

    Ramifications: Seattle are still searching for their team identity, yet were able to battle back after falling down two goals against Chicago. A somewhat lackluster start put the Reign on their heels, yet thanks to Lynn Biyendolo and rookie Jordyn Bugg, the visiting squad crawled back. The Reign currently sit in sixth.

    7North Carolina Courage

    Prior Ranking: 8

    Result: Beat Angel City 2-1

    Ramifications: The Courage defeated Angel City in overtime, with a 95th-minute game-winner from Brianna Pinto. Despite playing Angel City on the road, the Courage dominated 24 to 13 in shots. The Courage are 4-5-3 and sit below the playoff line in 11th place.

    6Portland Thorns

    Prior Ranking: 10

    Result: Beat Washington Spirit 2-0

    Ramifications: Reilyn Turner and Pietra Tordin scored for the Thorns in a 2-0 victory over Washington, snapping the Spirit's five-game road winning streak to open the season. The Thorns (5-3-4) remained undefeated at Providence Park this season. Portland hasn’t dropped a game at home in eight straight matches dating back to last year.

    5Washington Spirit

    Prior Ranking: 3

    Result: Lost to Portland 2-0

    Ramifications: The Spirit suffered a tough loss on the road against Portland, conceding two goals at Providence Park. The Spirit looked a little out of sorts playing against Portland, who challenged them early on with Reilyn Turner's speed up top. The Spirit are still holding on in the league standings in fourth place with a 4-4-1 record.

    4Gotham FC

    Prior Ranking: 5

    Result: Beat Utah Royals 3-0

    Ramifications: Gotham FC pounded the Royals 3-0, and earned their stripes on the road in Utah. Despite it not being one of their most challenging games, three goals was a good performance for the New Jersey side. Esther González scored a brace for Gotham, and now has nine goals this season.

    3San Diego Wave

    Prior Ranking: 4

    Result: Beat Houston Dash 3-2

    Ramifications: The San Diego Wave continue to score well-executed goals that start with the backline's distribution into the midfield, then find their way out wide. Despite the Dash scoring two goals to narrow the deficit, the Wave were just too proficient in front of the net to let the game get away. The Wave are currently in third overall with a 7-3-2 record.

    2Orlando Pride

    Prior Ranking: 2

    Result: Beat Bay FC 1-0

    Ramifications: This was not the Pride's best game, but they still somehow walked away from the match with three points. The Pride have Barbra Banda to thank, scoring their only goal - her eighth of the season. The Pride sit in second place in the league standings with an 8-3-1 record.

    1Kansas City Current

    Prior Ranking: 1

    Result: Beat Racing Louisville 4-2

    Ramifications: It's starting to become a thing again with the Current, and that thing being "Who is going to stop them?" Michelle Cooper is in her best form, and the entire attacking line for the Current has been almost impossible for the league to manage.

    Temwa Chawinga scored her eighth goal of the season to put her just one goal behind Gotham FC's Esther Gonzalez in the Golden Boot Race. The Current are 10-2-0, with a perfect 5-0-0 record at home.
